Fun Finds Friday - I'm SEW Happy!

I really needed to work on my long neglected house this Friday.  Every room is currently eligible to be declared a disaster area!  Between the everyday living, the two-four nights a week after work grand baby sitting and playing too much on weekends, things have gotten OUT OF CONTROL!  I needed to stay away from garage sales, estate sales..any type of sale.

 But as I started working on my bedroom and cleaning out drawers, I suddenly felt overwhelmed by how much there is to do, so I did the logical thing!  I ran out the door as fast as I could, made a brief stop at the RaceTrac for my favorite fountain diet coke and hit a couple garage sales!

And, I'm so glad I did!  Look what I would have missed out on if I hadn't sacrificed cleanliness and organization for fun finds!  A clean, organized house is so overrated.

This beauty was only $20.  Isn't she gorgeous?  She has some veneer issues and a drawer that has lost some of it's decor, but I can see beyond the outward and straight into her gorgeous soul.

She is going to have a good home in my new vintage sewing room that I am working on.  I saw another awesome cabinet (her twin) on Pinterest recently that was painted and aged.  It was so gorgeous.  I'm trying to decide whether or not to attempt a transformation, or let the old girl age gracefully.  Kind of like the same struggle I'm having with whether or not to dye my hair or age gracefully.

Wow!  It's been forever since I've posted Fun Finds Friday!  (If you are following me, you will note that a bunch of posts were removed after February.  Sorry about that!  I had an oopsie on the computer and I'm too lazy to go back and rebuild!)

I had a marvelous thrifting day, in spite of the fact that I actually had to go into work today for part of the day!  With finds like these, maybe I should make working on Fridays a habit!

I found most of these treasures at the same yard sale and at awesome prices!

Here's a little closer look at my finds:

I'm a sucker for old shoe forms.  I haven't figured out what I am going to do with them yet, but they always look awesome in vignettes and shelf displays.

I got both of these old sewing drawers for $2.  I love these.  They will be cute in either the sewing room I plan on creating from one of my kid's now vacant rooms or as more vignettes.  I like that word...vignette, vignette, vignette.....

That WordSearch game in the back was practically free!  It is FILLED with very vintage looking rounded wood letters.  Kind of like round scrabble tiles.

Is this old clipboard TO DIE FOR?????  And, get a load of the price!  I have plans for this that I think are awesome.  More to come on that!

Lastly, I love old insulators - especially pretty blue ones that are only .50!  They are also awesome for......join me in saying "vignettes!"  I'm not sure why I got the old stein, but it looked antiquey (if that's a word) and if nothing else, I thought I might have luck on ebay with it.  I also got the old fan for $1.  It doesn't work, but the Cowboy is pretty hand with electrical repairs, and look at that original turquoise color!

I think I made a killing today!  And I think there are a few of you having murderous thoughts of jealousy at my great finds!

I had a happy Friday this week! Look at my treasures.  I can't tell you which of my finds this week I like best!

I love the little blue Samsonite.  It really helps round out my collection of vintage suitcases, but I can't honestly tell you whether it's the actual suitcase I'm so in love with or the vintage Southwest Airlines bag tag!  Since I work for Southwest when I'm not off at garage sales or repurposing some items, I'm a little partial to all things Southwest.  It was a little more than I normally spend on suitcases - $5.

I found two really fun vintage spice racks.  $4 for both!  I have plans for these babies and can hardly wait to get at them.

I don't know what that heavy metal foot thingie is, but I like it.  I imagine it had something to do with shoe cobblers.  I seem to be in a foot frenzie lately.  If anyone knows what that is, please advise.  I really liked it and it was only $2.

The clock is vintage-looking, but it's probably just from World Market or something like that.  It needs some work and I'm thinking about giving it a remodel.  For $1, if all else fails I will salvage the cool hardware on it.

The last thing I found was a little jar for .75 cents.  I can always use glass jars.

All this for less than $13.  Since I'm way under my normal garage sale budget for the week, I think I may have to go splurge on a frozen yogurt!

Fun Finds Friday

I was a ‘vintage girl’ when vintage wasn’t cool.  It all started with my mom – who was also a vintage girl.  I grew up with antiques in every room. Like many things passed down by your mom, I inherited her love for anything old that possessed character. 

In the late 80’s when the Cowboy and I got hitched, my sense of style and taste were completely different from everyone my age.  Our new home was filled with antiques that I brought with me to Texas from California (where I was raised), while theirs were filled with glass and brass.  The Cowboy and I scoured the antique section of the newspaper and haunted antique auctions to furnish our home.  Our very first purchase was a vintage dining table at an auction.  Our second purchase was a tiger oak buffet and hutch.  They are still my two most cherished pieces of furniture in my home.  Some day, if I ever finish my living room makeover, you will get to see them!

Our dining room had a large bay window where I grew up.  On one side of the window was a collection of old bobbins. When I see old bobbins, it brings back special memories for me of family dinners gathered around the huge antique table in that room.  Because of this, a couple years ago I started collecting old bobbins. 

Sometime in the next year, I plan to purchase a cargo trailer and salvage the rest of the antiques and items that are special to me and bring them to live with me here in Texas.  My brother, who now lives in her house, has no sense of sentimentality when it comes to things.  In fact, I have almost taken my shotgun to him when I have discovered some of her antiques that he has either given or...THROWN away.  He says Mom is in his heart and he doesn’t need ‘things’ to remind him of her.  While I completely agree, some of her ‘things’ just bring me comfort and seem to bring her a little closer.

I had a great thrifting day on Friday.  While everything wasn’t cheap, it was all a great bargain.

I have been wanting a Keurig Single Cup Coffeemaker, but they are so expensive and I only want it for when I am hosting Scrapbook and Stamping events at my house.  (www.ilove2scrapandstamp.blogspot.com), so it has been hard to justify buying one.  But then I went to a yard sale and I found this brand new, in box, Keurig.  This model usually runs $160 and I got this baby for $60!

Aren't those the coolest old wood shoe forms?  I got all three shoe forms, the bobbins and the vintage Polaroid for $25.  

I know.

Fun Friday Finds

I only had time to run by one garage sale today.  My two youngest flew in from college this weekend to get a "mom and dad" fix (translation - they need more clothes and want to eat out).  It's one of the benefits that I love about working for an airline.  I probably needed my chickadee fix more than they needed us, but we will take anything we can get!

I spent a whopping total of $3 on the items below.  I already have some gorgeous fabric for the chair makeover.  Those cool vintage style bottles are for me to keep.  One day, I will revamp one of the kids' rooms into a vintage style sewing/guest room and it will be perfect for it.  The tray will see some new life too.

See how dry my poor Texas yard is?  The only good thing about this summer was that I didn't have to mow twice a week!

I'm pretty happy with my buys this week.  You can't lose when you only spend $3!

Fun Finds Friday

WOWZA!  I found some awesome stuff last Friday!

What you see is ALL vintage/antiques: a sewing cabinet, coca cola crate, two very old suitcases, two old industrial bobbins, an antique cherry pitter, and a vintage box filled with blocks.  All this for less than $60!

I'm going to have to keep most of these treasures.   They are just too fun to resale or repurpose!

Does the fact that I’m posting Fun Friday Finds on Sunday reveal that I’m either a procrastinator or really busy?  I’m going for the really busy, but the truth is, I procrastinated!  I got too busy researching my finds to actually post about them!

These were all found at Estate Sales.  Usually, I find Estate Sales too expensive, but I felt like a got a couple really good deals.  I guess my ebay sales and makeover items will tell whether it’s Trash to Treasure later!

I got all this for $30!  Pictured are a Vintage porcelain lamp, brass lamp, floral etched plate (hard to see), two plant/plate stands, two cool blue bottles, a hurricane candle holder with silver-leaved feet, a Vintage Brighton Jacket in perfect condition, two Anne 

Klein leather clutches and a set of pub placemats.

For an additional $75, I got this really cool Vintage Antique Wrought Iron and Brass double bed.  I love this bed!  I’m debating about keeping it or not because I have been looking for one, but if I can sell it at a really good price……

I couldn't honestly tell you whether it's more fun to Makeover something from Trash to Treasure or sell it at a profit!  I'll let you know when I get a little more experience (smile)!
