Fun Finds Friday - Knit One, Purl Two

One of my fondest memories is set in the yarn shop my mom owned when I was in the third grade.  It was in a cozy little house in our small country town.  My girlfriends and I would walk there after school and she would make us hot chocolate, feed us snacks and teach us how to knit and crochet while we sat in comfy chairs around the warm Franklin stove.  If I had the money and didn't have to work full time, I would recreate that same little atmosphere and open my own little shop like my mom's, but I would have to include paper crafts classes, which is my main passion.

When I stumbled upon this week's Fun Finds, it not only thrilled the thrifter in me, but it took me back to a very happy time in my life.

I love it when I go to a garage sale and the lady of the house is a compulsive craft shopper!  I feel an instant kinship with someone who has triplicates of the same thing!

Check it out:

I actually gave away some of the items I was able to purchase from this lady before I took this picture, but you can see I hit the mother lode of knitting and crocheting!

Here are some closer looks at what I was to steal!

This set appears to be new.  I checked it out at Joann's and it was $69.99 there!

These are lighted crochet hooks.  They are new.  The little tabs that need to be removed to engage the battery are still intact.  In addition, there were several packages of replacement batteries.  They still have the price tags on them from Hobby Lobby and each package was $2.49.

This is a complete set of crochet hooks.  In all, I think there are probably four full sets or more between all the different styles.

Want to venture a guess on what I paid for all of this?

I would love to have more followers via Google Friend Connect or BlogLovin'.  I don't want followers because I want to have this huge following and to monetize my blog.  I honestly don't have time to make a lot of blog posts, which you can tell by looking at the history of this blog.  It's just that   it is more fun to create posts when I know I am sharing my fun finds, crafts and Cowgirl Chronicles with other people who may enjoy them.  Can you help me make it to 100 followers?

In May, I am going to do a drawing with my new followers and will send a package that will contain some of the goodies above.  Comment on this post to be entered.

Hugs,
Randee

Fun Finds Friday - Vintage Jackpot!

Wow!  I really hit the vintage jackpot this weekend with my thrifting adventures!  Just look what I found!

Everything Vintage!
Dress form, old photographs, floral frogs, old craft books, vintage scale, vintage poloroid

I have been wanting an antique dress form for my sewing/guest room, but they have been so expensive.  I basically stole this from the lady that was selling this one.  Shh!  Don't tell anyone!

She is a little rusty on the top and it just makes her more beautiful.  She also has the figure I would like to have!

I have been collecting vintage floral frogs.  I have them in my craft room to display some of my hand-stamped cards and to use for taking pictures of them.  Plus, they are just cool-looking.  And look at the old Kismet cards from a vintage 1975 game.  They are going to become scrapbook and paper crafting ephemera in my etsy shop someday soon.

And speaking of ephemera.....these vintage Workbasket magazines are filled to the brim with really cool old ads and ephemera.  I'll do another post in the near future to show you the insides of some of these old beauties from the 50's and 60's.

Vintage photos are super hot right now and I hit pay dirt with these from an estate sale!  It's beyond me how family would want to get rid of their heritage, but I guess I won't complain since I am the beneficiary of part of this estate.  Many of these are the old kind that are mounted on a thick postcard style backing.  I haven't explored the dates on these yet, but they are all black and white, and I would guess that some of the older ones are from the late 1800's to very early 1900's.

These will be awesome in some paper crafting projects I have planned and will ensure that the pictures, if not the memories of these long ago loved people stay alive.

Fun Finds Friday - Stamp Holder and other Awesome Vintageness!

It's been a long, long time since I have been able to go to garage and estate sales because of illness, death in the family, vacation and just being too busy overall.  I was SO glad to be able to go this week and I was able to get some great treasures!

Vintage Stamp Holder, Bone China Teacup, Frame, old rodeo brochure, vintage state flag brochure, 2 containers of lace, candlesticks, baby items, clock, luggage rack

I was so thrilled to find the stamp holder!

I have been debating about getting one of the new ones for my craft room because I haven't found an old one, and this one came complete with several vintage stamps!  I have also been looking for a luggage rack for my guest room.  This is also a hard-to-find item, so I hit the lottery on Friday!

I have plans to repurpose the frame, candlesticks and clock.  Watch for it here.

And no thrifting is complete without fabulous toys for my sweet Brodee!

Hope you had a terrific thrifting week!

Fun Finds Friday - I'm SEW Happy!

I really needed to work on my long neglected house this Friday.  Every room is currently eligible to be declared a disaster area!  Between the everyday living, the two-four nights a week after work grand baby sitting and playing too much on weekends, things have gotten OUT OF CONTROL!  I needed to stay away from garage sales, estate sales..any type of sale.

But as I started working on my bedroom and cleaning out drawers, I suddenly felt overwhelmed by how much there is to do, so I did the logical thing!  I ran out the door as fast as I could, made a brief stop at the RaceTrac for my favorite fountain diet coke and hit a couple garage sales!

And, I'm so glad I did!  Look what I would have missed out on if I hadn't sacrificed cleanliness and organization for fun finds!  A clean, organized house is so overrated.

This beauty was only $20.  Isn't she gorgeous?  She has some veneer issues and a drawer that has lost some of it's decor, but I can see beyond the outward and straight into her gorgeous soul.

She is going to have a good home in my new vintage sewing room that I am working on.  I saw another awesome cabinet (her twin) on Pinterest recently that was painted and aged.  It was so gorgeous.  I'm trying to decide whether or not to attempt a transformation, or let the old girl age gracefully.  Kind of like the same struggle I'm having with whether or not to dye my hair or age gracefully.

What do you think......on both counts????

Fun Finds Friday

Wow!  It's been forever since I've posted Fun Finds Friday!  (If you are following me, you will note that a bunch of posts were removed after February.  Sorry about that!  I had an oopsie on the computer and I'm too lazy to go back and rebuild!)

I had a marvelous thrifting day, in spite of the fact that I actually had to go into work today for part of the day!  With finds like these, maybe I should make working on Fridays a habit!

I found most of these treasures at the same yard sale and at awesome prices!

Here's a little closer look at my finds:

I'm a sucker for old shoe forms.  I haven't figured out what I am going to do with them yet, but they always look awesome in vignettes and shelf displays.

I got both of these old sewing drawers for $2.  I love these.  They will be cute in either the sewing room I plan on creating from one of my kid's now vacant rooms or as more vignettes.  I like that word...vignette, vignette, vignette.....

That WordSearch game in the back was practically free!  It is FILLED with very vintage looking rounded wood letters.  Kind of like round scrabble tiles.

Is this old clipboard TO DIE FOR?????  And, get a load of the price!  I have plans for this that I think are awesome.  More to come on that!

Lastly, I love old insulators - especially pretty blue ones that are only .50!  They are also awesome for......join me in saying "vignettes!"  I'm not sure why I got the old stein, but it looked antiquey (if that's a word) and if nothing else, I thought I might have luck on ebay with it.  I also got the old fan for $1.  It doesn't work, but the Cowboy is pretty hand with electrical repairs, and look at that original turquoise color!

I think I made a killing today!  And I think there are a few of you having murderous thoughts of jealousy at my great finds!

Happy Friday!

Fun Finds Friday

October and November are our busiest personal months with the Cowboy having to ready the ranch he manages for a big event for over a thousand people and then at the event close, he heads out for his Colorado hunting trip. I spend a lot of time helping him with both events, so I don't get any projects done from all the weekends I work with him. I manage to get in a little thrifting, but I hope someday soon, I can actually repurpose and use all my goodies!

I had a lean week as far as garage and estate sales go, but I'm very happy with what I found from one stop.

This is a tea service, three primers from 1905 - 1914, a couple of vintage pictures and an old postcard.

I paid more than I normally would for some of these goodies, but I really wanted the coffee/tea service for a project I'm collecting items for to complete ($20 for the set), $5 each for the primers and .25 for the pictures/postcards.  I'm very happy with my lot.

Here is a closeup of the items:

I have some decorating ideas for some of these items.  I hope to share them with you in the next few weeks.

I did try to start some of my makeover projects, but then Texas did it's "weather" thing and it got too cold and/or windy for me to work outside.  I need a workshop!

Happy Thrifting,
Randee

Fun Finds Friday

I had a happy Friday this week! Look at my treasures.  I can't tell you which of my finds this week I like best!

I love the little blue Samsonite.  It really helps round out my collection of vintage suitcases, but I can't honestly tell you whether it's the actual suitcase I'm so in love with or the vintage Southwest Airlines bag tag!  Since I work for Southwest when I'm not off at garage sales or repurposing some items, I'm a little partial to all things Southwest.  It was a little more than I normally spend on suitcases - $5.

I found two really fun vintage spice racks.  $4 for both!  I have plans for these babies and can hardly wait to get at them.

I don't know what that heavy metal foot thingie is, but I like it.  I imagine it had something to do with shoe cobblers.  I seem to be in a foot frenzie lately.  If anyone knows what that is, please advise.  I really liked it and it was only $2.

The clock is vintage-looking, but it's probably just from World Market or something like that.  It needs some work and I'm thinking about giving it a remodel.  For $1, if all else fails I will salvage the cool hardware on it.

The last thing I found was a little jar for .75 cents.  I can always use glass jars.

All this for less than $13.  Since I'm way under my normal garage sale budget for the week, I think I may have to go splurge on a frozen yogurt!

Hope you have an awesome week.

Happy Thrifting!
